Armand Anthony Assante Jr. (born October 4, 1949, New York City, New York) is an Emmy-winning and Golden Globe-nominated American actor.

Biography

Assante was born to an Italian American father and an Irish American mother. His first major role was in 1974, in The Lords of Flatbush. His sinister look has made him a popular choice for villains and mobsters appearing in several films and TV series. His most notable film appearances were The Mambo Kings opposite Antonio Banderas and the adaptation of Judge Dredd co-starring Sylvester Stallone. He guest starred in several episodes of NCIS, playing an international arms dealer.

Notably, Assante delivered a riveting performace in the 1996 made-for-T.V. movie based on mobster John Gotti. The role displayed the depths of his talents, though Hollywood fails to screen him in continuous major films Assante so rightfully deserves.

He was married to Karen McArn until they separated in 1994. He lives in upstate New York and has two daughters, Anya and Alessandra.
