Donna Murphy (born March 7, 1958) is an American actress. Murphy was born in Corona, New York, the daughter of Jean (Fink) and Robert Murphy, an aerospace engineer.[1] She was raised in Topsfield, Massachusetts and graduated from Masconomet Regional High School in 1977. After highschool, Murphy went on to study at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, majoring in Drama. Murphy is an accomplished and respected actress who has been building a career of range and diversity. She is perhaps best known for her role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard's love interest Anij in Star Trek: Insurrection (1998). In 1994, she won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance as Fosca in Stephen Sondheim's and James Lapine's Passion. In 1996 she appeared as Anna Leonowens in the Broadway revival of The King and I alongside Lou Diamond Philips. The role earned her another Tony nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. She also appeared in a revival of Wonderful Town (from 2003 to 2005) and in Lovemusik (in 2007), as Lotte Lenya, opposite fellow Tony Winner Michael Cerveris, as Kurt Weill. She appears in The Nanny Diaries as Scarlett Johansson's mother. She has been married to actor and singer Shawn Elliott since 1990.
